Cargolux connects with its Indian customers at a Mumbai event

Cargolux Airlines, Europe’s leading all-cargo carrier, organised a special event recently in Mumbai to connect with its Indian customers. The event was to celebrate the successful launch of the global carrier’s Indian operations in April 2015 and to celebrate the global carrier’s 45 years of operations. The event attracted large number of freight forwarders and other invitees from the air freight industry.

Mumbai was Cargolux’s second Indian connection, launched in March this year, after Chennai. It now offers two weekly services from Mumbai in combination with two weekly services from Chennai. These connect to the Luxembourg hub of Cargolux.

The event was put together by Aviapro Logistics, Cargolux’s GSA in India. Cargolux was represented by Sharon Vaz-Arab, Regional Director, Middle East and Indian Subcontinent and Vernon Rosario, Country Manager, India for Cargolux. Aviapro was represented by Jhangoo Daruwalla, Director; Malcolm D’Souza, Vice-President, Sales, India; and Fariz Shaikh, Operations Officer. The event also had Laure Huberty, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Luxembourg in India, as a special guest.

Making a presentation of Crgolux’s operations Vaz-Arab highlighted how the all cargo carrier, despite a low yields scenario, continued overcapacity and declining volumes, performed well, achieving record levels of tonnage and higher net profit last year. “We outperformed the market and direct competition in Europe. We had increased in share of specialised products cargo and was focusing on industry-specific needs,” Vaz-Arab commented.

“Mumbai service has been doing quite well despite the competitive market and the pressure on rates,” said Nicolaas van der Weide, Executive Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Cargolux, in a recorded video message played at the event. van der Weide reiterated that India is an important region for Cargolux and we would certainly look forward to expand the Indian operations in the future.

Outsize cargo, textiles, pharmaceuticals, automobile machinery, etc. are some of the shipments Cargolux carries from India. And according to Cargolux there is a balance between outbound and inboud cargo.
