May 22, 2017: The centre is mulling on permitting the use of internet on flights by August end.

Lalit Gupta, joint DG, Directorate General of Civil Aviation reportedly said the Department of Telecommunications is yet to provide clearances for the same.

He further added that Indian carriers Jet Airways and SpiceJet are expecting deliveries of the Wi-Fi fitted ‘Boeing 737 MAX’ by mid-2018.

Currently inflight internet is banned in India on security grounds.

About 70 airlines across the world offer inflight internet letting passengers email, livestream, use social media, download movies and even make calls.
